Bruno Latour On Social Construction
By Leo Gura - March 24, 2025
This is very good stuff:
“Latour’s metaphysics is utterly democratic. Atoms and quarks are real actors in the cosmos, but so are Fidel Castro, Houdini, and unicorns. We cannot declare a priori that some actors are more real than others; all we can say is that some are stronger than others. But this strength is never measured solely in the currency of human struggles for dominance, since animals, stars and brute subatomic matter are engaged in the struggle for reality no less than are Machiavellian cabals.” — Graham Harman
The problem with most ways humans do metaphysics is the gross human bias. They conceive of reality in a human-centric way. But surely you see that reality cannot be human-centric, it cannot have human biases. God must be unbiased in the same way that gravity must be unbiased. Gravity doesn’t play favorites, it just pulls everything in equal direction. So a fundamental principle of proper epistemology, ontology, and sense-making is that your view must be totally unbaised if it seeks to reach ultimate understanding. This is why a bedrock principle of Actualized.org is to transcend human bias. In order to reach the highest levels of God-Realization we have to transcend our human-centric view of reality.
For example. it is absurdly biased to believe that planet Earth and the human race has some special and exclusive revelation of God via any human prophet, such as Christ or Muhammad. It cannot be the case that God sent his highest messenger to Earth, to humans. This is a cartoonishly human-centric way of thinking about God. Humans should be embarrassed to even claim such things when there are trillions of planets beyond Earth. Are we supposed to believe that trillions of planets are fucked just because a human (Christ) never appeared there? This is just an obvious example of human-centric bias. There are many more subtle examples throughout intellectual traditional.
But be careful. This does not mean that you should deny or reduce away the human perspective. The human side of this work needs to be honored and taken seriously too. But not at the expense of ultimate understanding! Do not cling to a human-centered ontology. Transcend it for the purposes of fully realizing God. Then you can descend down to the human domain and use God’s lack of bias to clean up the human domain. The beauty of God is that it’s totally unbiased. So don’t dirty God with your human ideas. Instead, drop your human ideas, access God, then return to the human domain and use God’s purity to clean up all the bullshit.
No matter how much they are told, humans insist on attaching their human bullshit to God. God is not your daddy. God does not care about you. God is not here to serve you. God is not here to grant you wishes and make you feel happy emotions. God does not even fit into the frame of human sanity. Get over all that human stuff. Reality is far too serious to be human.
Does a space rock care if it falls on your head? The only reason it hasn’t is because you’ve been lucky, not because God cares about you.
God is so democratic that to God there is no difference between a human and a rat. Only the colossal arrogance and collective narcissism of mankind can believe that humans are better than rats.
